Hybrid Bell

As mentioned before, it is risky to identify bells by their fittings because parts may have been replaced as they wore out.  This F#4 is a great example, as it has Whitechapel clapper felt, pegs, spring rivets, handguard and handle; a Trusonic clapper; Petit & Fritsen springs; and a Bells of David staple!  So what kind of bell is it?  The “Mears” on the casting is the giveaway... it’s an old Whitechapel.  They have been in business for 500 years and their patterns have not be sold to another foundry, so if you find a Mears bell, it’s safe to say it’s a WC!
